The upcoming fast day of Tisha B’Av (9th day of Av) is the day of mourning which commemorates the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem as well as many other tragedies that befell the Jewish people. Tisha B’Av concludes the 3 week period of mourning that began with the 17th day of Tammuz which marked the beginning of the siege of Jerusalem.
Our Tisha B’Av schedule is as follows:
Erev Tisha B’Av evening service will take place on Saturday night, August 2nd at 9:00pm. During the services we will read from the Book of Lamentations by candlelight and sing songs recalling the glory of ancient Jerusalem.
Shachrit service for Tisha B’Av will be Sunday morning, August 3rd at 9:30 am WITHOUT Tallit and Tefillin. Since Tallit and Tefillin are not worn in the morning (as a sign of distress over the destruction of Jerusalem), they are put on later in the day as a kind of reconciliation with God, as the fast day comes to a close.
