The ARA & Beth Shalom Community-Wide Shavuot Learning Event

Thursday, May 28th – Starting at 6 p.m.

 

 

 

The Atlanta Rabbinical Association (ARA) will host a community-wide Tikkun Leil Shavuot at 6:00pm. Registration is a must.  Click Here to register.

 

Evening spotlights include learning with:

· Michael Twitty, 2018 James Beard Award Winner

· Rabbi Brad Artson, American Jewish University

· Dr. Judith Hauptman, Jewish Theological Seminary

· Dr. Paul Wolpe, Emory University

 

 

At 8:00pm, Beth Shalom will be having their Tikkun Ley’l Shavuot with the following guest speakers and their topics:

 

8:00  - 8:40     Aging and Sage-ing,  Presenter: Rabbi Judith Beiner, Community Chaplain at JF&CS

 

8:45 - 9:25       The More Things Change the More they Stay the Same: Counting Heads (Census) in Torah and Today , Presenter: Dr. Jeff Lazarus , Professor of Political Science at Georgia State University

 

9:30—10:15     End of the Election Marathon: Thoughts on Israel’s new  Government,  Presenter Rich Walter, Vice President of Curriculum and Outreach at the Center for Israel Education and Associate Director for Israel Education at the Institute for the Study of Modern Israel at Emory University.

 

10:15 – 11:00      Judaism Through the Lens of Behavioral Economics...or is that vice versa?  Presenter: Shai Robkin,Teacher of behavioral economics at various locations throughout Atlanta and consults with companies on the use of behavioral economic research findings in their business decisions.

 

11:00 - 11:40       Empathy—Getting Past the Labels that Separate Us from Others, Presenter: Wendy Kalman, Works in knowledge management for a large multinational company and is working towards dual master's degrees in public administration and communication.
